I saw my British friend from London at the hospital today. He has cancer in his throat and couldn’t eat regular food. He has been having only Ensure for two years now. This elderly man doesn’t have any relatives or family. He lives and does everything alone at 73 years old. I knew he was a lonely man for his entire life so I messaged him weeks ago to see how he was doing because he is a fellow Christian friend.
The way I encouraged him was to tell him to have faith in God. I shared my dad’s lupus story to show that he wasn’t alone. I told him how my dad almost died from this lupus disease and God allowed it to happen to keep him holy and not sinning. This British man used to enjoy life, but now he couldn’t consume regular food. I was trying to tell him that this happened to him for a reason to save him from his sins so that he doesn’t continue to sin but turn to God and have faith. I told him to rely on God because no one can save him. He listened very thoughtfully and my words made him better.
What I did today:
- Visit him at the hospital.
- Treated him like he was our family.
- We listened to him talk about how his illness made him feel.
- I told him he could give me a call if he needed someone to look after him.
- I prayed for him.
- I shared my dad’s lupus’ story.
- We talked about his past job.
- Our attention was focused on him.
